Mr. Hayes Ray-Bowie
Mr. Hayes "Gregory" Ray-Bowie, 51, of 6027A Bartonsville Road, Frederick, died Sunday, July 27, at his home. Born July 28, 1951, he was a son of Ellen E. Ray, and the late Hayes Weedon. Mr. Hayes graduated from Frederick High School in 1971. He served in the U.S. Army. He and his brother Tobias started and ran a detailing business for a number of years. He was employed as a security officer for Comsat in Clarksburg, as a truck driver for Swanns Company and worked as a dispatcher for Bowie Transportation, Inc. He was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church, Frederick, and a past member of the St. James Gospel Choir. Surviving in addition to his mother are one daughter, Odetta Sharmone Ray; two stepdaughters, Denise Johnson and Coretta Giles of Frederick; one stepson, Frederick Cann of Frederick; stepfather William Ray Sr.; two sisters, Katrina Bimage and husband Jimmy of Houston, and Sheila Ray of Frederick; two brothers, Tobias Ray and wife Jessie of Brunswick, and Jonathan Ray of Frederick; two grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; eight aunts, R. Catherine Hayesworth, Edna Diggs, Celestine Dixon, Montery Bowie all from of Frederick, Elizabeth Phelps of Woodruff, S.C., Virginia Hampton of Graycourt, S.C., Dorothy McNair of Newport News, Va., and LaVerna Thompson and husband AC of Lauren, S.C.; and six uncles, Paul Bowie and wife Dorothy, Gilbert Bowie and wife Betty, William Bowie and wife Peggy, all of Frederick, Luke Ray and wife Patricia of Walkersville, Lemon Ray and wife Mary of Lackey, Va., and Paul Ray and wife Thelma of Fountain Inn, S.C. He also will be remembered by friends, Wilhemina Grant, Jennifer Allison and Heather Delosier. He was preceded in death by one brother, William Ray Jr.; and one nephew, Corey Davis. A viewing will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, at Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. South St., Frederick. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 31 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Park, Linden Hills, Frederick. Bearers will be Kenneth Dixon, Christopher Dixon, Leroy Johnson, Steven Simms, James Gray and Charles Johnson Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. James Missionary Society.
